Bedroom Suite

Soft natural oak flooring across a master suite, second bedroom, and connecting hallway.

Overview

Bringing warmth and continuity to a three-room bedroom suite with wide-plank natural oak.

The homeowners wanted to replace dated wall-to-wall carpet in their master bedroom, second bedroom, and the hallway linking them — roughly 650 square feet in total. The brief was comfort-first: a warm, matte-finish oak that felt soft underfoot while standing up to everyday life with kids and pets.

We selected an engineered wide-plank oak in a light natural tone with a matte urethane finish. The wider boards reduce visible seams and give each room a more open, contemporary feel without sacrificing the cosy residential character the family was after.

Preparation

Old carpet came up easily — but the subfloor underneath told a different story.

Carpet removal across all three spaces went smoothly, but the second bedroom revealed severely water-damaged plywood subfloor beneath the old underpad. Rather than patch, we opted for a full subfloor replacement in that room — tearing out the compromised sheets and installing new ¾-inch tongue-and-groove plywood to match the elevation of the adjacent rooms.

Both walk-in closets and the hallway linen closet were included in the scope, ensuring no awkward carpet-to-hardwood transitions at closet doorways. We also planned seamless thresholds between all three rooms so the flooring reads as one continuous surface from end to end.

Result

650 square feet of seamless oak — closets included, every threshold flush.

The finished suite feels noticeably larger and brighter. Light reflects gently off the matte oak surface, and the continuous plank direction through all three rooms and the hallway creates a sense of effortless flow. New baseboards and quarter-round trim were installed throughout, finishing each wall line cleanly against the new floor.
